  1. Yosemite is stunning all over, not just in and around the valley. The High Country along Tioga Road is also beautiful, and with over 90% of the park being wilderness (and thus needing a permit to explore), there is no shortage of amazing places that are seldom explored.

    1. Driving in to Yosemite via the Tioga Pass may have been the best part. Fantastic scenery. And that’s saying something considering how amazing the rest of Yosemite is.

    2. You only need a permit for overnight camping in the backcountry. As long as you’re not stopping, you can hike for as long as you want in the backcountry. The only exceptions in the whole Sierra are the Half Dome cable permit and the Whitney Zone permit in Inyo (which can be backdoored by backpacking and hiking Whitney from the East).

The rest of the Sierra is just as good as Yosemite IMO. Just less developed and harder to get to a lot of stuff. I think the backpacking is better in Inyo and Sequoia/King’s Canyon.

    1. Make sure to check the weather to see if you need to buy chains if you’re driving in and for what will be an option or not. There’s a potential for a storm to roll in.

  2. I play soo many video games that if I was there in person I’d want to fly over to that water fall. Standby while I summon my epic mount… wait.. where.. what?!… oh…
