  1. I spent 9 days earlier this year on a solo photography road trip, driving through the western half of Slovenia, a tiny country nestled between Austria and Italy on the eastern flank of the Alps. While many of the locations that I shot were at least somewhat planned out ahead of time, this image, one of my favorites from the trip, was a complete surprise. I’d left my camera in the hotel room and was walking to dinner when I looked down at the emerald green Soča River (dammed up here) and saw the fog rolling down out of the Alps. Needless to say, I immediately forgot about food, ran back to grab my photo gear, and spent the next hour photographing and taking in this amazing scene until it was too dark to see.
