      1. Yeah, I didn’t know how to feel about it. I appreciated the architecture and loved the look of the hotel, but when we got up to Zaanse Schans and the tour busses started pouring in – it felt like Disneyfication of the culture and area.

        That said – you Dutch have some great cheese, fantastic people, beautiful cities/countryside, and an overall wonderful country.

  1. I was cycling through Zaandam a few years ago and [took a photo](https://i.imgur.com/wPpEqVj.jpg) of this hotel. Later I learned that it was a controversial project. The locals thought the design was stupid and silly. But the project went through anyway. The architect did include one interesting bit: the blue protruding house bit is from a painting by Monet, created when he was visiting the area.
